I am a painter. &#8211; Paul Klee&#8221;]<\/p>\n<h3>Why Am I Inviting You to Make Your Own Adult Coloring Book?<\/h3>\n<p>So many people who before\u00a0would never have owned art materials are using coloring books within the last few years. I did a post on <a href=\"https:\/\/mindfulartstudio.com\/whats-wrong-with-adult-coloring-books\/\" target=\"_blank\">coloring books<\/a> a few months back which generated a lot of really interesting discussion, both here on the blog and in other venues.<\/p>\n<p>I heard from a lot of people who find the experience of coloring\u00a0very relaxing and\u00a0creative. What really intrigued me was the feedback I got from a number of people who reported that coloring books were a powerful grounding tool during intense anxiety and panic. They said\u00a0that the structure of the activity combined with physical experience of filling in the colors\u00a0was calming. \u00a0This led me to share last week&#8217;s post about <a href=\"https:\/\/mindfulartstudio.com\/simple-drawing-techniques-for-anxiety\/\" target=\"_blank\">Simple Drawing Techniques for Anxiety<\/a>. I wanted to offer some ways that you could make your own simple\u00a0grounding technique with only a pen and paper.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve also heard from a few people in my <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/groups\/creativeselfcare\/\" target=\"_blank\">Creative Self-Care<\/a> group on Facebook about how using coloring books was a way of testing their creative abilities before trying anything too unstructured and &#8220;artistic.&#8221; This got me to thinking about how I might create a structured way for folks to take the next step into an expressive art activity without it feeling too scary.<\/p>\n<p>[bctt tweet=&#8221;Color the invisible. &#8211; Cosmin Voisan&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m very excited about the coloring book\u00a0phenomena because I see people&#8217;s hunger for creative self-care techniques, and I want to\u00a0empower you\u00a0to see that you\u00a0CAN make art, and that you\u00a0are a far more powerful artist than you\u00a0know. Like any other skill, it helps to have some guidance and encouragement.
